What Are Fall Colors?
Before we take a look at some examples of color palettes for fall, it’s important to understand what this term actually refers to.
A fall color palette (or autumn color palette, as it’s sometimes called) is a mixture of colors that are typically associated with the fall (autumn) season. Think about fall. Think of what it evokes, the images it brings to mind: that’s essentially your fall palette.
For many people, the first association is the changing colors of the leaves on the trees, going from the bright greens of summer to a mixture of warm autumn shades, like mustard yellow, dark golden brown, and orangey reds. These are among the most iconic fall colors.
Other associations with fall include certain imagery, which also brings in complementary colors. Think pumpkins (different shades of oranges), hot cups of cocoa (warm browns), Halloween (bold and dark shades), and crisp fall air. Each of these associations brings to mind certain hues and shades, and that’s how we build up a classic fall color palette.
