How to install Pitt’s Adobe Illustrator brushes

Download the file to your desktop (or wherever you want to store it). Unzipp the package. To install the Brush Library file for newer versions of Illustrator, open Adobe Illustrator, and make sure the Brush window is open (Windows Brushes). Click on the “hamburger” menu at the top right corner of the Brush window. (It looks like three small horizontal lines). This will open a fly-out menu. Go to Open Brush Library and then to Other Library. Navigate to your desktop, or wherever you saved the .ai file, and select it. You should see a new Brush panel appear in your illustrator document showing the available brushes.

Installing Pitt’s Adobe Illustrator Brush Library files permanently

Locate your Applications folder on your hard drive and find the folder that corresponds to the version of Adobe Illustrator in which you’d like to install the brushes. Open the Presets folder, then the en_US folder (or it_IT, etc etc), and finally, the Brushes folder. Create a new folder there titled, Pitt Brushes. Move the (brush name).ai into your new Pitt Brushes folder. Your Pitt brushes will now be available every time you open Illustrator. Access them in your Brushes panel by clicking on the small Brush Libraries Menu button in the bottom left corner of the Brushes panel. It looks like a stack of three books standing up. In the resulting menu, navigate to your new Pitt Brushes folder to see the brushes you just installed. Feel free to place all your subsequent Pitt brushes here so they’re organized in one place!

How do I fix vector brush “corner glitching”? Vector brushes don’t exactly work the same way as raster brushes; they stretch a vector object across the length of a line instead of depositing pixels on a canvas. That vector line doesn’t always end up perfectly smooth and uniform based on the settings of your Brush or Stroke tools. Since this is the case, vector-based brushes can glitch around sharp corners or line segments that double back on themselves. There are a few ways to mitigate these issues in Adobe Illustrator. Try some of these options when you encounter a corner glitch:When drawing with a vector brush in Illustrator, change your miter Limit to 2 (or other low number) in the Stroke window (Windows Stroke).

Change your Fidelity slider in the Paintbrush Tool Options to Smooth before you start drawing. (Double click on the Brush Tool in your Tool menu to bring up Paintbrush Tool Options).

Consider changing the Corner setting in the Stroke window (Windows Stroke) to the rounded option (the second option of the three available).

If you get a small line at the end of a segment that doubles back on itself, you can always delete that extra segment with the Direct Select Tool (A) in Illustrator.

Try to draw in smooth, even arcs with your tablet or mouse, and avoid jerky motions.
