  • er hum....... sorry to nit pick, but.........slide 3/5 is incorrect..... an Arial M and a Helvetica M both have vertical stems, Myriad Pro has an angled stem....... 11 years ago

  • ....... back in my day!! (1987 BC - Before Computers!) we used a photo hand lettering process for large fonts. Typesetting machines were limited to 92pt. anything larger would result in pixelation. Outdoor posters, large newspaper ads etc...... all headlines were set in a darkroom, each font had its own reel (we had about 50 font families to choose from) a reel was placed in an enlarger, and each letter was exposed onto a sheet of photographic paper, best way to learn about kearning, as it was all done by hand. we could only set about 20 characters at a time as the photo sensitive paper would start to go grey, and we would loose everything! a very long and laborious process....... but i spent a good part of my 'juniorhood' staring at fonts up close! 11 years ago
